Nov 21, 2008 - its not. thats the turbo getting rid of un-used air...... i think

Nov 21, 2008 - Well you douche, an ALS (anti-lag system), allows air to bypass a closed throttle and continue to spin the turbo, thereby reducing spool up time when the throttle is opened again. It effectively produces extra combustion during a gear change, and increases low speed boost capability of the engine.
jamesthejudge Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - From my knowledge as an engineer, this is a very brief and basic summary of how an active diff. like the one on the ProDrive works.A computer uses inputs from multiple sensors, including yaw rate, steering angle, and lateral acceleration and adjusts the distribution of torque to compensate for undesirable handling behaviors like understeer.
blackXSpr Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - Close; it actually dumps gas into the engine and combusts it to allow the turbo to remain spooled.

Nov 21, 2008 - I'm a mechanic and here's my explaination:Makes car move when push magic peddle.
bigbobkropp Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - bang on. Why would it be shooting large flames out the pipes if it just allowed air to bypass the closed throttle? Its actually very simple. Audi was doing it on their Quattro Group B production cars before the class was shut down in the early 80's. 600 horse from a 2 liter engine and you get 6 foot flames out the pipes on shifts. Pretty spectacular stuff.

Nov 21, 2008 - thanks.
grumpymurff Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - Als, is pretty simple. Its controlled via the engine ECU. The engine management system retards the ignition on decelaration, combusting the air/fuel mix when the exhaust valve is open. keeping the turbo spinning at full boost. Also notice flames only shoot out from the exhaust when he is lifing off the throttle and changing gears. Good system, but bad for the poor old turbo!

Nov 21, 2008 - Thus is the difference between a mechanic and an engineer. And why I like mechanics better.I'm a racing driver and here is my explanation:Give me money. Then I'll explain. ;)
themanwhoknew Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - Why? we're all crooks that never admits our occupation when someone says their cars broken down hahahaBut it's the only profession IN THE WORLD that allows nude pin up calenders and revealing ass cracks. I love the education system in vehicle maintanence and servicing:*kicks tire* yeah, it's probably fine.
tacticaldriver Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - I wonder if the anti-lag is a system that simply maintains constant manifold pressure to compensate for off-boost moments. This probably means a one way valve preventing backflow into the turbo. And I suspect that the anti-yaw not only proportions torque but matches diff ratios exactly to the turn radius just like F1 cars of the MS era.
rasmAn2 Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - there are systems that have an extra spark plug in the exaust when entering a expasion chamber, the spark is shut down in the cilinder and changed to the exaust. this works like a jet engine keeping the turbo spooled. because the flame doesn´t reach the turbo it´s not that bad. nevertheless i thought this was illigal in racing as they would toast the spectators

Nov 21, 2008 - If they toned down the styling that would be one sexy ass looking car.... not even going to lie.Right now, just too aggressive.
